“From Sketch to Reality: 7 Essential Stages in the Monument Construction Process.”
Building a monument is a complex process that combines art, engineering, and sensitive project management. For me, it is a journey that begins with a story and ends with a meaningful, tangible structure—memorial sculpture.
1. Listening and Understanding (The Narrative):
Before any sketch, I listen to the family or community—the story. What is the exact message? What symbols are important? This stage forms the emotional and conceptual foundation.
2. Initial Sketches, Renderings, and 3D Models:
I translate the story into forms. At this stage, I use advanced modeling technologies to examine proportions and how the monument integrates into its surroundings.
3. Precise Material Selection:
As I have demonstrated in many of my works, material must be not only aesthetically pleasing but also durable and meaningful. I evaluate the durability of the chosen stone versus reinforced concrete, as well as the appropriate integration of metals to add elements that become part of the artwork and its story.
4. Engineering and Approvals:
A monument is a public structure. It must be stable, safe, and compliant with all standards. This is a rigorous technical stage that includes structural calculations and collaboration with an engineer from the design phase through approval.
5. Sculpture and Casting (Workshop Work):
This is the artistic execution stage. Whether it involves hand engraving of text or casting a bronze sculpture, this stage requires high skill and sensitivity to materials.
6. On-Site Installation:
Transport and assembly on site require maximum precision, sometimes involving extremely heavy components. The accuracy of the connections and finishing determines the quality of the final result. At this stage, everything is already prepared, and the process resembles “Lego”—assembling the elements into a complete work of art.
7. Final Finishing and Dedication Ceremony:
The final polishing—the “finishing touch,” treatment of the surrounding landscape, and ultimately the dedication. This is the moment when the monument officially becomes part of the collective memory.
